In 2001, NDMC President Derek Drayton
nominated Canine Partners for Independence as his chosen charity and,
after a year of fundraising activities, a total of £1744.75 was
presented to the CPI at the club's annual Dinner and Awards ceremony of
February 9th.

Canine Partners for Independence
enables disabled people to enjoy greater independence and a better
quality of life through the help of specially trained dogs. |
| A CPI dog can, amongst other things,
open and shut doors, switch lights on and off, call a lift or press
a pedestrian crossing button, draw the curtains, empty the washing
machine, pick up items and even use a cash dispensing machine! |
