New NDMC President Fred Partridge chose
the BBC Radio Devon 'Chestnut Appeal' as his first 'President's Appeal'
charity. During the course of the year, NDMC members and friends raised
funds to support this worthy appeal.
The final total was £2000, a cheque
was presented in February 2005.

The 'Chestnut Appeal' has been set up to provide a 'state of the
art' Prostate Cancer unit at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. This
unit will offer a sympathetic environment for the diagnosis, education
and treatment of men with diseases of the prostate. The unit will
treat people across Devon and Cornwall.
Prostate Cancer is on the increase, with 21,000 new cases in the
UK each year. However, it can be treated effectively, and new treatments
are being evaluated all the time.
