Our President, Les Deacon, in his third term, selected the Forget-Me-Not Project, a cause with special significance for Les and his wife Fran. At our recent Dinner & Awards Evening we were pleased to donate £1000 to this very worthy cause, matching the donation for the 2007 Appeal..

"I am writing on behalf of the Forget Me Not Project to thank the members of North Devon Motor Club so much for the generous donation of £1000 which I received at your annual Dinner Dance and Awards Presentation on Saturday evening. As already mentioned, this money will be so useful at Berry House, our respite care home in Barnstaple for adults with learning difficulties in North Devon. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening and the lovely flowers they gave me. Best wishes to the club for another successful year." Yours sincerely, Sheila Cook

Where is the Forget-Me-Not Project based? The Forget-Me-Not Project was founded in 1983 to provide respite care to adults with learning disabilities. After several years of fund-raising they were able to purchase Berry House off Park Lane in Barnstaple and have the necessary work done to bring it up to registration standard. Berry House is a small family home in a residential area close to the town centre and all amenities. With capacity for five residents at any one time. Professional staff are on duty day and night and although clients are encouraged to help themselves wherever possible, staff are always there for help and support. |

| All bedrooms have modern
pine furniture, are fully carpeted and have wash hand basins.
The large kitchen is fully equipped. The laundry room has a washing machine and tumble dryer. The clients can also enjoy the small pleasant garden during the summer months. Berry House is run as an aid to both carers and clients alike. Clients are encouraged in all aspects of home life skills such as cooking, shopping and gardening. Whilst enjoying a well-earned break, carers can rest sure in the knowledge that their dependents are not just being looked after but are being helped towards greater independence. |

Other local organisations such as golf, snooker and darts clubs play for a Forget-Me-Not Trophy on an annual basis, providing much needed regular income. If you would like to help in some additional way, the fund-raising chairman, Mrs Sheila Cook (tel. 01271 890987) would be delighted to hear from you.
