On a very wet and dreary afternoon, 7 crews arrived at Blackmoor Gate car park to take part in this event. Fortunately as the afternoon progressed, the weather improved.

The event started with the crews solving a few clues in the car park. They then left for a quick drive up the main road towards Combe Martin, turning off and going down through Kentisbury. Another quick drive down the A39, before turning off and proceeding through Arlington and Loxhore.

At Loxhore Ponds, they parked up and had a walk round to solve, what I considered, to be very easy clues. Unfortunately all the crews found these clues very difficult, with the result that I had to extend the finishing time by 30 minutes!

Once they had solved these clues, they had another quick drive along the main road to the edge of town. Turning off at Ivy Lodge and proceeding through Maidenford and Acland Down to Landkey. From here the route took them into Newport, ending the event in Willow Tree Road. They then proceeded along the link road to the Wimpy at Roundswell for a cup of tea and the results.

Points were awarded with one point for a very easy clue, through to three points for a slightly more difficult clue. Provisional results showed that once again, the reigning champions, Mike and Sally, were the outright winners.

Upon making a final check of the results in quieter conditions, I discovered that I had made a grave error in my calculations! Whilst this did not change the overall winner, it did show a much closer contest between the rest of the crews.

My sincere apologies to all for this error - I knew that I should have taken my beads with me! My excuse is my age, you can call it what you like!!

Very many thanks to you all for turning out on such a dismal day, it was nice to see a few more crews turn out. But there is still room for more of you to take part in these events.
