Exercise - February 15th |

New Inn, Goodleigh
Steve Knight is forced to have a change
of driver, as hop along Baglow seemed to be out of action
. at
least he didn't answer his phone for a month; how does he manage to
run a business?
Christian Thorne steps in. Apparently anyone in their right mind does
not go driving with Christian unless they want to die. In fact I felt
completely safe .. but somewhat dizzy, as we turned out of the pub car
park and power 220bhp of Astra down the road into the night.
We set about bashing and plotting all over North Devon, through spot
heights, ups and downs, over and unders, sometimes even finding a via,
until, as expected my other self starts to play up, and we have to open
the passenger door sharpish. The only difference is that I don't get
the door slammed in my face, ( like what when Baglow pulls over into
the hedge ! ).
"Feeling better ?" Who can feel better at this speed ? as
we navigate around miles of country lanes no more than a farm yard.
In fact we ended up in many of those.
Mr Cocker - route planner extraordinaire - had thought of yet another
way to confuse us already stressed navigators by putting the tulips
facing anyway at-all on the page. The first time I have had to turn
the map to try and get a feel of the shape of the junction. What a problem
which, sent us miles in the wrong direction more than once. I think
a Cavalier pulled over 6 times to let us pass, as the tortoise and the
hare traded places. Christian said he couldn't remember what I said
at the next junction! Just how difficult is it to remember one word
... " left " .
But, by using the alternative method of map reading; speed, we end up
second overall.
