Navigation Exercise - March 15th

Blackcock Inn, Molland

Starting at the Blackcock Inn in Molland, 5 crews started the 45 mile route, setting off towards North Molton, and then onto the nice little section through the forest by Brynsworthy to TC2 where all the novices were clean but both experts were taking a few minutes penalties to plot and bash. This seemed to be how things would continue with both experts dropping small amounts of time on all sections. The novices were a bit different with all 3 crews cleaning the first couple of sections, but then all 3 lost time on the 3rd.

The crews then headed to Landkey for the classic Bableigh section which caught out a few. From here was the slippery section at Upcott, across the main road and another slippery section at Sideham to the finish near Newton Tracey.

First crew home were Chris Tucker and Jamie Goodreid who would have won the novice class based on time if they hadn't missed two via's! As it turned out Bob France and Nic Ayre didn't miss any via's and won the class on 21 minutes. That made Nic's 300 mile journey worthwhile. All crews were very close and it shows how important the via's are with 2 crews losing positions by missing them.
