Gymkhana

Gymkhana Sunday 16th May 2010

Do I, don't I? Go ahead or cancel?

After a long deliberation due to the rain we decided to run it!

A quick set up and a few tweeks and we were ready to go. After the last gymkhana on 25th April, the general feedback was positive in regard to the un-timed tests.

Rain had stopped for a while, Jill marshalled test 1 and I went off to marshal test 3, armed with my plank and rule! (no ticker tape this time Derek!). Nigel Angrave was off laying down the benchmark. I would like to say here closely followed by Steve Spear (but not after 2 wrong tests Spooner!) Good job Darren West turned up to show Steve the right way around the course.

Nick Angrave next, good times but those un-timed tests were starting to play their part. Lloyd and Adam gave their normal quick wit and banter to the event. Joe Hayes and David Redstone teamed up to complete their test. David said that his Fiesta had shrunk in the rain (that was his excuse for being so far away from the marker plank on the un-timed test!) Bradley had a good test, I think he enjoyed the slippery conditions.

All off to test 4, note a bit wetter now but still good fun. Bradley was first off on this test, it was all about traction now. Lloyd and Adam next, nothing between these two except maybe the odd cone or two! Spooner next, not a wrong test in sight, but maybe a cone on the distant horizon. Darren next, nothing between these two again, apart from Darren being a little short of the plank on the un-timed tests. Joe edging ahead of his co-driver Dave. Nick went before dad (watch him Nick, I think your dad's got a plan), pretty slippery now. Nigel finished off test 4 with a clean run on his timed tests.

I went off to sort out the sheet and tot up the results while Bradley set up the fun test in aid of the President's appeal, which raised £11.00. I think the word "fun test" should be re-written because it was no fun cleaning all that sheep s***t off the car! Stopped raining, sun out (ish - alright, no sun but it had stopped raining).

In all, we completed 16 tests, 8 timed and 8 un-timed. I enjoyed it, I hope you all did!

A big thank you to Jill Hayward and Chris Grant, hope you didn't get too wet and I apologise to Sophie and Russ Drayton about my indecisiveness. Thanks also to Megan Down (my personal assistant) for helping me with the money.

David Redstone is running the next gymkhana on 27th June. I think there is going to be a slight twist on the un-timed test!! See you all there
