IMPORTANT INFORMATION
New Motor Insurance
Law.
From 2011 a new law
gives DVLA more power to combat keepers of vehicles
that are not insured.
A new provision comes
into force under the terms of continuous insurance enforcement,
which has been little publicised and could catch some
of our membership out who might lay up their cars for
a while or who are working on a project. It is now an
offence to keep an uninsured vehicle even it is locked
up safely in the garage or permanently parked on a driveway
off the highway even if there is no active intention
to use it.
If you are keeping your vehicle off the road and it
is not insured you must make a Statutory Off Road Notification
(SORN). If it is taxed you need to return the disc (including
nil discs) on a V14 form to DVLA. Previously this has
only effected vehicles which were not taxed.
(Vehicles which have
not been used on the road and were last taxed before
31 January 1998 are exempt from the above.)
