Open to participants competing with motorcycles, combinations and cars. Classic Trials usually take place during the winter months on un-surfaced tracks which can be steep also very muddy and slippery. The aim is to complete (or at least attempt) a series of these 'off-road' sections and score the lowest possible number of penalties. The events are split into various classes where the more competitive vehicles  are giving tougher tests so that all classes can have a chance of success. However, much enjoyment can be gained by just attempting to climb that 'impossible' section in an almost standard vehicle.

Trials are extremely popular events, and the NDMC organise two events each year - the Exmoor Trial in February, and the Steve Knight Tarka Trial in October.
